TEST Associate - Advocacy & Campaigns (Do not apply)

London (Hybrid - 2 days/week in office)
Full or part-time
Permanent employee
35,000 - 45,000 £ per year

Role Overview

About the role: We’re looking for an Associate to join our Advocacy and Campaigns team. The team is responsible for helping clients identify the targets they need to reach and develop strategies to influence them, drawing on a broad range of tactics. We translate complex policy into actionable asks, and often lead work with coalitions or where stakeholder management and campaign planning are key.

In this role, you’ll support and advise di:ga’s clients to help them influence governments, companies and international bodies. You’ll be a strategic thinker and solid all-rounder, with a good understanding of how media, social media, and public affairs can be used to drive change. You’ll be able to ask the right questions to get to the heart of an issue and craft compelling arguments that make politicians, journalists, or the public take notice.

We are particularly interested in people who can get into the mind of a policymaker or campaign target, then develop and project manage strategies to influence them. You might have previous experience in politics, NGO campaigning, or at an agency.

This is a permanent, full-time role reporting to the Head of Advocacy and Campaigns. We are open to part-time and flexible working arrangements. The position is hybrid, with at least two days per week in our London office (currently Mondays and Wednesdays).

Your profile

Person specification: You will be a super smart and tenacious campaigner who knows how to influence policymakers, shape advocacy strategies, and build relationships that deliver impact. You’ll write brilliantly, communicate with clarity and purpose, and be comfortable moving between registers — from drafting a compelling report foreword to preparing talking points for a high-stakes meeting.

You’ll have previous experience in Parliament, an NGO campaigning team, or at an agency, and will instinctively understand how advocacy, communications, and campaigning work together to deliver change. You’ll also be flexible and up for working with colleagues across our News and Digital teams to design and implement integrated communications strategies.

We have a di:ga service standard, which ensures we offer a top-quality service to our clients. This means that everyone we hire, regardless of their role or the team they sit in, must have the following essential skills:

  • Excellent writing ability, including spelling and grammar.

  • Strategic thinking and a focus on impact; understanding of how to use communications to drive change.

  • Excellent time and project management skills – ability to stay on track of deliverables, communicate clearly and meet deadlines.

  • Confidence in own judgement and able to argue a point, but tactful and diplomatic, with respect for others’ knowledge and experience.

  • Creativity, tenacity and self motivation; comfortable working remotely and often alone - good at communicating in this context.

  • Professionalism, self-awareness, a willingness to learn.

In addition, the successful candidate will have the following job-specific skills

  • Proven success working in advocacy, campaigning, or strategic communications, preferably on issues di:ga works on.

  • Strong understanding of policymaking and legislative processes in the UK, other countries (e.g. USA, France, Germany), and/or multilateral bodies (e.g. UN, EU, WTO).

  • Ability to develop and deliver advocacy and campaign strategies, including stakeholder mapping, campaign planning, and coalition management.

  • Excellent ability to translate complex policy and technical issues into clear, compelling messages.

  • Experience using media, digital and social media, and online campaigning tools to support advocacy and drive impact.

  • Track record of handling client relationships with professionalism, diplomacy, and creativity.

  • Experience in client-focused tasks such as:

  • Developing campaign or report launch strategies.

  • Writing, editing, and reviewing reports and documents for accessibility and impact.

  • Advising on branding, fundraising, crisis management, and digital channels.

  • Researching new techniques for reaching audiences and driving change.

  • Strong external awareness: able to stay on top of relevant news, events, and sector developments.

  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with journalists, civil servants, political advisors, potential clients, and collaborators.
